About Us

 

The Colonel Gilbert Potter Chapter, NSDAR was organized on October 10, 1957, in Amityville, Long Island, New York. It is named in honor of the Revolutionary War officer who safeguarded Long Island's livestock and served in the underground network that kept General George Washington informed of enemy activities. Col. Potter was a physician by profession, who was born and died in Huntington, Long Island.

Wednesday, May 4, 2016: Visit grave of Col. Gilbert Potter.
Thursday, May 19, 2016: Annual Business meeting, Reports by Chapter Officers and Committee Chairmen, Installation of New Officers.
Thursday, October 20, 2016: Luncheon
Chapter members also participate in the Amityville, NY Memorial Day Parade and the Fourth of July Parade.

 

Chapter members and guests visit Raynham Hall Museum in Oyster Bay, NY. Raynham Hall was built in 1738 and was the home of the Samuel Townsend family. The Townsend's son, Robert, became one of General George Washington's most trusted sources as a member of the Culper Spy Ring.

Col. Gilbert Potter Chapter NSDAR participated as a Commemorative Partner in honoring veterans of the Vietnam War Official commemorative certificates and pins were presented to VFW Vietnam War Veterans to thank and honor them for their services, valor, and sacrifice during the Vietnam War.

Female patients at the Northport Veterans Administration Medical Center received bags of love assembled by chapter members. The bags contained toiletries and other items necessary for patient comfort during their hospital stay.
